Check-In:

Check-in begins at 4pm.  Guests are welcome to arrive as early as 1pm to pre-register for the room and begin using the waterpark and amusement park until the room becomes available.  Grand Bear Resort does not provide any sort of luggage check.  Registered guest must be twenty-five (25) years of age or older to check-in to Vacation Villas or Luxury Cabins and twenty-one (21) years of age or older to check-in to Lodge rooms.

Check-Out:

Check-out time is 11am.  Guests are welcome to utilize the waterpark and amusement park  after check-out on the day of departure.  Grand Bear Resort does not provide any sort of luggage check.

Chaperone Policy:

For Vacation Villas and Luxury Cabins, one adult age twenty-five (25) years or older is required for every six (6) guests under the age of twenty-one (21).  For Lodge rooms, one adult chaperone age twenty-one (21) years or older is required. View our Chaperone Policy

Early Check-In:

We cannot guarantee any early check-in.  Check-in is based upon availability of rooms prior to 4pm.  Guests are welcome to arrive as early as 1pm to pre-register and access the waterpark and amusement park until a room is available.

Late Check-Out:

Late check-outs are granted based upon availability.  We cannot provide information on the availability of a late check-out until you arrive on property for check-in.  Late check-outs typically require an additional fee.

Deposit Policy:

A deposit in the amount of the first night's room rate plus taxes and resort fee are due at the time of booking.  Please allow up to 24 hours for processing of your credit card.  Any remaining balance will be due at the time of check-in.

Cancellation Policy:

All reservations canceled prior to 3 days of arrival will forfeit $25 (plus taxes) of the initial deposit.  All reservations canceled within 3 days of arrival will forfeit the entire initial deposit of the first night's room rate plus taxes and resort fee.  Certain promotions may require a non-refundable deposit.

Security Deposit:

In addition to any remaining balance for room and tax at check-in, we require a security deposit of $50 for Lodge rooms and $1000 for Vacation Villas and Luxury Cabins.  Security deposits for Vacation Villas and Luxury Cabins will be accepted via credit card only.  The use of a debit card will directly affect the available funds of your checking account and may be held by your bank up to 30 days following your departure. Ages 2 & Younger:

Day Passes:

Open to the Public:

The Enchanted Forest indoor amusement park and Canyon Creek outdoor miniature golf are both open to the public.  Admission is sold on a per person basis.

Pets:

Pets of any kind are not permitted on property with the exception of service animals.  Please contact us directly for nearby pet accommodations and  information.  Offenders will incur additional fees.

Grilling:

Grilling of any kind is not permitted on property.  The nearby Starved Rock State Park does allow and provide for outdoor grilling.

Smoking:

Smoking  of any kind is not permitted in any guest rooms or any public areas of the resort.  Offenders will incur additional fees.

Parking:

Parking is provided for all accommodations.  Vacation Villas and Luxury Cabins are restricted to 2 vehicles per unit.  All other vehicles may park in the main parking lot.

Transportation:

Transportation is provided on-site only on weekends and holiday time periods.  Provides access to vacation villas, luxury cabins, amusement park and the main lodge which houses the waterpark and arcade.

Food & Beverage Policy:

Outside food and beverage is permitted in all guest rooms only.  Outside food & beverage is not permitted inside the waterpark, amusement park or any food or retail establishment.

Room Rates:

All rates quoted via phone or internet are based on the number of guests indicated at the time of reservation. Any additional guests above the number of guests indicated on the reservation confirmation will result in a higher rate.  All room rates are subject to availability and may change at any time.  Rates are guaranteed only with a reservation with a credit card guarantee.

Resort Fee:

Casual dining at Grizzly Jacks Grand Bear Resort includes Jack's Place Restaurant and Sports Bar, The Grizzly Bean Cafe, The Honey Pot Sweet Shop and The Wave Snack Shop.

Jack's Place Restaurant & Sports Bar

Our main restaurant is located in our Enchanted Forest Indoor Amusement Park. Jack's Place serves delicious appetizers, gourmet burgers, fresh crisp salads, and specialty pizzas that will be sure to get the party started! Serving lunch, dinner and phenomenal drinks. Delivery available.  

The Grizzly Bean Cafe and The Honey Pot Sweet Shop

Located in the Lodge Lobby the Grizzly Bean Cafe serves a multitude of deliciousness: gourmet coffee, specialty coffee drinks, and yummy breakfast items. The Grizzly Bean Cafe transitions to the Honey Pot Sweet Shop at noon. There you can find yummy chocolates, decorated cookies, hand-dipped pretzels, saltwater taffy, seasonal fudge, gummies, and home of our homemade waffle cone with mountainous scoops of ice cream.

If you're running low on energy from all the fun, try a delicious piece of fudge or taffy.  Cool down on a hot day with a homemade waffle cone and your favorite flavor of ice cream.
Wave Snack Shop

The Wave Cafe

Located in our Indoor Water Park (Grand Bear Falls), the Wave Cafe serves concessions, small snacks and tropical drinks. Come feed your little fishies!  

Moose Crossing Convenience Store

Forget something at home? No worries! The Moose Crossing is Grand Bear Resorts' convenience store located at the Lodge. There you can find toiletries, souvenirs, t-shirts, goggles, swim diapers, snack & grocery items, wine, and beer.

The Northwoods Niche Gift Shop

Located in the main lobby, you will find something special for everyone! There you can find Grand Bear logo souvenir apparel, swimwear, plush animals, books, decorative memorabilia for the home, bottled wine, jewelry, phone accessories, wedding gifts and more! Come take a peek and bring home a piece of Grand Bear home with you!
 
 

Grand Bear Falls Waterpark

Located on the first floor of the Lodge is a place where you can come on down and make a BIG SPLASH! With water slides, lazy river, wave pool, early morning ' Ducky Derby' and a hot tub area there is some where for everyone to kick back and relax!  

Enchanted Forest Indoor Amusement Park

Located across from the Lodge is an array of bright lights, fun rides, lazer tag, ropes course & zip line. Don't forget to bring some arcade coins over! There are many arcade games to win tickets for big prizes!

Canyon Creek Mini Golf

An18-hole adventure miniature golf course is a family favorite with its very own waterfall and flowing stream. Challenge yourself to a round or two!  Open weather permitting.  

Bear Island

Let's face it, everyone gets cabin fever! Come on out and enjoy the nature at Bear Island, It's a four tiered observation deck that overlooks Curtis Canyon. Curtis Canyon is our very own breathtaking 80 ft. waterfall which gives you a real appreciation for nature's artwork. Bear Island is open year round for your viewing and hiking enjoyment.  

Castle in the Woods Playground

Located next to Bear Island is our very own Castle in the Woods playground. It is open daily until dusk for your little bear cubs to run and play.  

Ducky Derby

Open to kids of all ages, join us in the Grand Bear Falls waterpark for a race to the finish line! Every Saturday and Sunday at 8:45am. Fun and prizes for everyone!  

Storytime

Every night in the Grand Lobby, promptly at 7:30pm, folks gather 'round in front of the fireplace to hear Grizzly Jack and Grand Bear tell a story. Don't miss it!       *No outside food or beverage permitted in any dining outlet or seating area.

Driving Directions

From Chicago:

We're less than 90 minutes from Chicagoland, give or take a suburb or two! Take I-55 South to I-80 West. Follow the directions from I-80.

From I-80:

Take Exit 81/Utica (Route 178) South from either direction. Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort is located 3 miles south of I-80 on Route 178. Drive through the town of Utica. Cross over the Illinois River. Drive one mile past the entrance to Starved Rock and the Resort is on your right.

From I-39:

Take I-39 to I-80 East from either direction. Follow the directions from I-80.

The centerpiece of Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort is a 92 room lodge with five different guest suite designs that feature fun, northwoods-style furnishings.

Choose from a King Suite, Kid Cabin Suite, Family Suite, Whirlpool Suite, or Deluxe Family Suite. All rooms come with cable television, microwave, mini fridge, hair dryer and free Wi-Fi internet access.   The King Suites can accommodate up to four people and feature a king size bed and a sofa sleeper. Three of the suites are wheelchair accessible.   The Family Suites come with and without balconies and are perfect sleeping for six people with two queen size beds and a sofa sleeper.   The Kid Cabin Suites are designed for larger families of up to five people. This large room has a queen size bed, a sofa sleeper and a set of twin bunk beds for kids, and two TV's.         The Whirlpool Suites are for romantic getaways and honeymooners. This cozy suite features a two-person whirlpool tub, king size bed and fireplace.        

The Deluxe Family Suites are the most spacious in the lodge, with three rooms accommodating up to eight people. This suite offers three distinctive sleeping areas with two queen size beds and a sofa sleeper.  The master bedroom has its own two-person whirlpool tub and king size bed. The suites have three televisions and a cozy fireplace. fireplace and a four-post king size bed.

The 2-story, 1,800 square foot Vacation Villas at Grizzly Jack's are built in a beautiful wooded setting and sleep up to 9 guests.  Each has a fireplace & television in the living room, a kitchen and dining area, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a patio and 2 balconies. The kitchen is complete with all major appliances, a coffee pot, toaster, dinnerware, utensils for 8, and basic cookware. A full size washer and dryer are also included. The Master Bedroom has a king size bed, sofa, fireplace, television, a private vanity and a whirlpool tub. The second bedroom has two queen size beds and a television. The 3-Story Luxury Cabins are 2,800 square feet and sleep up to 18. They feature custom designed north woods furnishings, vaulted ceilings, fireplace, big screen television, and floor to ceiling windows.  Complete kitchen with all major appliances, coffee pot, toaster, dinnerware, eating utensils for 16, basic. cookware and a full size washer and dryer.  The spacious Master Bedroom is located on the third floor and has its own private bathroom and whirlpool tub.  A second bedroom (lower level) has two queen beds, a television, private bath and whirlpool hot tub. The third bedroom has 2 sets of twin/queen bunk beds, a dresser and television. One additional bathroom is located on the main level and another on the lower level.

What to Bring...

Individuals with reservations in our Vacation Villas and Luxury Cabins may want to consider bringing the following:

  • Paper supplies such as napkins and paper towels
  • Baking sheet for pizza or cookies
  • Laundry detergent for laundering of soiled towels/linens throughout stay (not required prior to departure)
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Mixing or serving bowls
  • Coffee and filters (coffee maker is provided)
  • Can opener
  • Salt & Pepper
  • DVD Player & Movies
*Villas and Cabins are not stocked with consumables, cooking or cleaning supplies. Each unit has adequate pillows, blankets, linens and towels for the maximum amount of guests per unit. The resort does not stock additional linens and towels above the maximum guest count.  Daily maid service is not provided in Villas & Cabins but may be requested for an additional fee.
