Santa, Ice Hikes and More Mark the Start of December in Ottawa!

Welcome the month of holiday parties, shining lights and jolly good fun with a bang, as the first weekend in December begins with a bevvy of festive events to get you in a mistletoe and merry kind of mood.

 

Breakfast with Santa

Date: December 5, 2015

Time: 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Venue: Lock 16 Visitor Center

Let the kids get in some quality time with the big guy before he gets too busy, all while bonding with family over a delicious breakfast. There will be chances for photos and all guests get to take home a holiday ornament and be a part of the "Miracle on First Street" celebration in downtown La Salle.

 

Guided Winter Hikes

Date: December 5, 2015

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Venue: Starved Rock Lodge

This short-lived seasonal event takes guests on a rare 4.5 mile round trip hike where frozen waterfalls and Bald Eagles and a winter wonderland are all possible! The trek begins at Starved Rock Lodge and traverses through nature and to LaSalle Canyon. Participants get a snack and a Starved Rock backpack. Warm layers are recommended and Yaktrax for traction in the event there is ice on the ground.

 

History Trolley Tours

Date: December 5

Times: 12 p.m. + 1:30 p.m.

Venue: Starved Rock Lodge

All aboard the trolley where you can learn about the legend of Starved Rock State Park and Lodge. Ride to the Lock and Dam, through downtown Utica.



18th Century Christmas

Date: December 5

Venue: Weber House & Garden

Step back a few years (ok, hundreds) to the 18th century and see how folks celebrated back then: with candlelit rooms and tables overflowing with cakes, meats and more.
