Discover The Natural Beauty On A Hike Near Starved Rock State Park

LaSalle County is home to some of the most breathtaking views of nature at its best! Have you visited Matthiessen State Park while enjoying your excursion in North Central Illinois this summer? If not, then it's time to gather a group of family and friends and head out for a journey of a lifetime! From picnicking in the park, hiking the mountainous terrain, fishing the streams to even horseback riding, Matthiessen State Park give you all this and so much more. Check out just a few aspects of the park that we love:

  • Sandstone Rock Formations are visible in the Upper and Lower Dells of the main canyon. Take this route for an education in geology and walking tour.
  • Wildlife and greenery thrive together in the low-lying areas of Matthiessen State Park. Be on the lookout for different varieties of birds feasting on berry-filled vegetation. Keep your eyes peeled for Cliff Swallows, Rock Doves, Scarlet Tanagers, Cedar Waxwings, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Nuthatches, Chickadees, bright blue Indigo Buntings, and Red-Tailed Hawks.
  • Cascade Falls Picnic area boasts wooden tables, water fountains, and a playground full of playful playground equipment for the little ones. Don't forget to check out the fort built in the 1600's by the French.
  • Nine miles of land is available for those wanting to take part in outdoor thrills. Hop on your mountain bike or horse and hit the trails! Please note: Mountain bikes and horses are not allowed on the trails of Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks.

If you haven't made plans for your adventure, stay with us! We have one of the greatest indoor water parks in these neck of the woods, as well as spacious and comfortable cabins. Call one of our friendly staff members today at 866-399-FUNN (3866) to book your reservation
