Utica, IL Things to Do - Cross-Country Skiing at Matthiessen State Park

Downhill skiing may get all the attention, with its speed and spills - but snow lovers know that cross-country skiing is just as fun. Quiet and peaceful while being excellent exercise, cross-country (or Nordic) skiing uses your own power and strength to move forward on skis. With the help of a couple of poles and a friend or two, you can explore the beautiful Illinois wilderness and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. You'll find six miles of trails at Matthiessen State Park, with ski rentals available from December through March. Please call 1 (815) 667 4726 to check current conditions and status of trails before you head out to use the facilities. Please not that alcohol is prohibited on all trails.

Matthiessen State Park is located just a few miles south of Starved Rock State Park, and you'll find the entrance on Illinois State Route 178. This park is known as a paradise with amazing rock formations, cliffs, canyons and forests. It's just 2.4 miles away from our resort, about a 6-minute drive.
