What's your plan for kicking off the New Year? Take the family on an exciting adventure to Starved Rock State Park. Start your New Year's Eve day off with storytelling by a local historian, then get up on the morning of January 1st to take a spectacular hike through the park. 

Storytelling at Starved Rock State Park - December 31st
Do your kids planning on staying up until midnight? No matter what the plan is to greet the coming of 2017, you can enjoy a fun afternoon of storytelling at Starved Rock State Park. Local writer and historian Billy Myers will share intriguing tales of from the Illinois Valley. Gather around a master storyteller to learn about the legendary tales that make Starved Rock a special destination in Illinois lore. Holiday Storytelling with Billy Myers kicks off at 1:30 pm.

Hiking on January 1st
Kick off your New Year with a hike through the spectacular scenery of Starved Rock State Park. You can explore 13 miles of well-marked trails. There is hiking for all levels, so you can bring the kids on a fun adventure. The Starved Rock Visitor's Center is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. It's even open New Year's Day!
