Take a Mule-Pulled Boat Tour of the Illinois & Michigan Canal

Step back in time when you take a mule-pulled boat ride down the historic Illinois & Michigan Canal. Located close to our family resort in Utica, this historic attraction is one of the top things to do in Central Illinois. After the one-hour tour, you can visit the canal-themed Lock 16 Café and pick out canal souvenirs in the gift shop. You can also learn more about the history of canal boats at the Westclox Museum.

Climb aboard a 19th-century replica of an original canal boat. Built in 1848, the I & M Canal created a brand new waterway between Chicago and LaSalle-Peru. Today you can relive the experience of riding down the canal. The relaxing one-hour tour includes plenty of fascinating history from the crew dressed in period costumes. Travel just like the pioneers of over 150 years ago!

The boat tours run from April to October every year. Upcoming tour dates include June 16, June 23, June 30, and July 7. Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $8 for children 16 and under. Parking is free and the rides take place rain or shine, so come ready for the weather.

Visit the website of the Lasalle Canal Boat and Lock 16 Center for more information on the boat tours and experience. You can also plan group tours or school outings in advance. These fun tours are located less than five minutes from Starved Rock State Park and just two minutes away from Grizzly Jack's Resort
