Just because temperatures are dropping in Illinois doesn't mean the outdoor fun has to stop in winter time. Located a quick ride from our resort, Starved Rock State Park is a winter wonderland offering a number of exciting activities. When you book a vacation at Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort, you'll be just minutes from the region's best winter hiking and cross-country skiing.
If you want to see the amazing ice formations that cover the canyons in the park, lace up your hiking boots for an unforgettable winter walk. The waterfalls turn into beautiful ice sculptures as the temperatures drop. The trails can be very icy, so make sure to have proper footgear such as Yak Trax.
Many of the trails at Starved Rock State Park are perfect for cross-country skiing after a snowfall. If you don't have your own skiis, you can rent them from December through March at the Matthiessen State Park Dells Area. Call 815-664-2484 for more information.
Before you set out on an ice climbing adventure, it's important to contact the park staff for the latest conditions. Please call 815-667-4726 to get the most up to date information.
If you like the thrill of racing through winter landscapes on a snowmobile, you can enjoy this exciting activity at I & M Canal State Trail in Utica. Note that snowmobiling is not allowed in Starved Rock State Park.
