When you are visiting #GrizzlyJacks, check out some #LaSalleCounty history!

Step back in time at the Lasalle County Historical Museum along the banks of the Illinois & Michigan Canal. Learn about life in the 1800s and in the time of Abraham Lincoln at this popular attraction less than two miles from our family-friendly hotel near Starved Rock State Park.

The museum complex consists of four unique buildings that capture the spirit of historic Utica. Erected in 1848, the Canal Warehouse is one of the few remaining original stone buildings left along the Illinois & Michigan Canal. Today you can tour exhibits inside of it that cover everything from Native American history to the Lincoln-Douglas debates that were conducted across Illinois. The Heritage Center houses historic exhibits on the 20th century and military artifacts from the archives.

Visit the One-Room Schoolhouse to see how teachers instructed children in 1865. Enter the Blacksmith Shop to learn how essential items such as door hinges, fireplace irons, and tools were made in the 1800s. The Barn dates back to 1875 and is where you can see how animals lived and were treated by veterinarians. You can see horse-drawn equipment and historic agricultural machines.

Conveniently located in Downtown Utica, about five minutes from our resort, the Lasalle County Historical Museum is a fascinating place to bring the whole family. It's open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 pm to 4 pm. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for kids. Plan a weekend getaway to Starved Rock State Park and add this museum to your vacation itinerary.
